If you do not know how to kill time, then ‘Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy’ is exactly what you need, as it takes even more time than you expects.
The game was designed by Bennett Foddy and is dedicated to the theme of a mountain ascend. A main character (a weirdly made guy) tries his best at mountaineering, having only a sledgehammer at disposal. What a mockery of developers! On the way there are many obstacles, making him be careful and premediate even the slightest body movement. Alas, very often (or it is better to say constantly) the protagonist plummets upside down and the gamer has got to start the game from the very beginning. Actually, that is the whole plotline.
Mr. Foddy is known for his individual style and peculiar features of his are inherent to the works he made. It concerns the game under consideration too. ‘Getting Over It’ shares some traits with ‘Sexy Hike’, developed by another designer, though it is much more interesting and profound. The creator’s ideas and worldview are represented in such a simple game. In other words, a person faces not only computer game, but philosophical background of it. As it was mentioned above, the protagonist clambers up and falls down perpetually, it alludes to ups and downs of a mere person and his/her attitude towards lapses. Thus, the game is not about having fun, but thinking. ‘Getting Over It’ is extremely popular among people and it is not a wonder, as it touches somehow the stories of real men, their rises and falls.
